Mt. Whitney Clouds - Lone Pine, California

** As a special note - my wife was on top of Mt. Whitney when this photograph was taken. She was finishing a 34 day backpacking trip in the High Sierra and had just reached the summit before I took the series of photos that includes this one. Although Mt. Whitney looks like the lowest point in this 10mm, ultra-wide angle shot, it is the highest peak in the lower 48 United States with an elevation of 14,496'. Since is it set back a bit with the taller appearing peaks being closer to my point of view, it appears shorter in this photograph. Fortunately, we were both blessed with these wonderful ragged cirrus clouds which really made the shot for me and created an outstanding view for her, 10,000' above. **
